Selva

Brotéria, Lisbon

The artists Cristina Lamas and Francisca Carvalho invited the curator Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues to think together about the occupation of the staircase of the Marquês de Tomar Palace and to challenge Brotéria to consider this place as a possible exhibition space. As a result of this approach, an element is exhibited that suspends itself, unfolds and claims the central void of the staircase, in order to rehearse (sew) a continuity between the street, the building and its various floors. A green patch that rises and falls and, like a vertical jungle, flattens out in the ambiguity and power of what it suggests: something between the mysterious density and dynamics of nature. Thus, the passage that opens up is essentially a reflection on matter and the delicate processes of working with it. A thought about the immeasurable distance we find ourselves from this Jungle, as a symbolic element of the unreachable natural places that demand our contemplation.
